Interactive Terminal Device Software Security Guide Released

The Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) has released a Guide to Software Security Development and Maintenance for Interactive Terminal Equipment (POI).

A POI device is a software or hardware component that runs on a POS device, such as a PIN pad, allowing consumers to pay with a credit card. According to PCI SSC, the guide addresses software on POI devices, including payment and non-payment applications, with a focus on enhanced security grading methods. The purpose of this guide is to ensure that POI equipment vendors and software development organizations are aware of potential threats and take appropriate action to address threats throughout the development lifecycle. Currently, cybercrime for POS devices is growing, and its targets are not just retailers, but also POS device vendors. Troy Leach, chief technology officer of PCI SSC, said: "Criminals are trying to find ways to steal data from all aspects of payment transactions. As third-party applications continue to grow in complexity, and consumers and businesses become increasingly dependent on it, crime The opportunity for the success of the numerator has also increased, so the continuous improvement of POS device software has become very critical."

According to PCI SSC, companies can refer to this guide to help ensure standard security coding practices, including security awareness training required for security software development, security software development lifecycle, device level testing, and internal review.
