After the explosion, white smoke first appeared and black smoke later. Some netizens also reported that residents in high-rises nearby had obvious "building earthquakes".

After verification by the Yunnan Provincial Fire Brigade, the command center received an alarm at noon, saying that an explosion occurred in a factory building No. 448, Banzhuang Village, Heilinpu, Wuhua District, Kunming. After receiving the police, the command center immediately deployed high-tech squadron, Xingyuan Road squadron, Xichang road squadron, Shagougen squadron, Hongqiao squadron, a total of 18 fire engines and 77 officers and men rushed to the scene for disposal. In the absence of open flames, the squadron immediately organized officers and men to exhaust and clean up the scene. At 12:25, the scene was disposed of and the squadron returned.

The Kunming Fire Brigade confirmed that the explosion site was a single-storey simple steel structure warehouse. The warehouse mainly stored water treatment chemicals, PVC fillers, paint, etc., with a construction area of ​​about 120 square meters.
