Background introduction

In 2008, the global financial turmoil triggered by the US real estate subprime crisis caused the global economy to remain out of the shadows. The subsequent European debt crisis, soaring oil prices and high unemployment have left the global economy in turmoil and consumer confidence is not stable. In this context, the global furniture industry, which is closely related to the real estate industry, will become a topic of close attention to the industry and investors.

Still growing market

Despite the severe setbacks, in 2010, the global furniture trade total rebounded significantly, an overall increase of 7.3% over the previous year, reaching 73 billion euros. North America remains the largest furniture import market, and China has become the world's most important furniture exporter with sales of more than 21 billion euros. According to the US high market news, the purchase volume of US civilian furniture increased significantly by 15% in 2011 compared with 2010. (Source: Association of the German Furniture Industries)

Prospective for the next three years

According to the latest report of Global Industry Analysts Inc. (GIA) in February 2012, despite the many unstable factors in the global economy, consumer lifestyle changes, disposable income growth, and diversified choices for high-end furniture. The intensification of urbanization and the influence of the West have led to an increasing demand for a wide range of furniture products. By 2015, the global furniture market is expected to reach $43.6 billion.

Asian and emerging markets are supporting new growth

With steady economic growth and steady improvement in living standards, Asia will become a long-term growth point for the global furniture market. Globalization and changes in consumer behavior are driving demand for luxury furniture in emerging markets such as China, Russia, India and Brazil. According to the statistics of the China Furniture Association, the total output value of China's furniture industry in 2011 was RMB 10 billion (according to the average exchange rate of US$1 in 2011, which was approximately RMB 6.3 billion, which was approximately USD 154 billion), an increase of 25.28% year-on-year; the export value was 388.82. One hundred million US dollars, an increase of 15.31%, accounting for 35.3% of the total global furniture trade.
