U.S. material manufacturer GE Plastics has developed a new polyetherimide (PEI) film based on Ultem PEI, a special material for bar code labels. According to the company, the new film named White Ultem WH217 has a uniform thickness, a smooth surface, and high tear strength; it has a 98% print contrast ratio and is halogen-free, meeting UL-94VTMO flame requirements. In addition, it has higher temperature resistance and dimensional stability than polyvinylidene fluoride (PVF) film and does not require surface treatment with high contrast ratio.
