Israel's Nano Dimension patents new multi-material 3D printing technology

For the well-known Israeli circuit board 3D printer manufacturer Nano Dimension (ND), the upcoming 2015 is undoubtedly very successful. In this year, they not only officially launched the desktop-level PCB 3D printer DragonFly 2020, but also successfully developed a variety of printing conductive ink and applied for a patent, and successfully landed in the OTCQX market. Just yesterday, the company applied for US patents and trademarks for a new technology. This technology enables 3D printing of multi-material objects, including electronic conductors and objects with conductive traces.

Direct creation of functional electronics using 3D printers opens the door to 3D printing into a wider range of areas, such as consumer electronics and even military applications. All electronic products, from smartphones to missiles, require a finely controlled process that can be fabricated using a single material, but precise multi-material 3D printing technology can be used to directly implant components into the circuit. This not only eliminates the steps of individual assembly, but also saves manufacturers a lot of time and money, and allows them to create more complex electronic products than ever before with a single button press.

According to China's 3D printing network, ND's patented multi-material 3D printing technology involves the process of sintering printed metal conductors in 3D printed polymers. This enables 3D printing of complex connectors and further enables printing of molded connectors directly on electronic circuits. In addition, this new process can be applied to 3D printed non-planar circuits and structures with embedded circuits. ND believes that this breakthrough technology will make the free creation of electronic products impossible, which is not possible with current circuit manufacturing technology.

I have to admire ND and apply for a new patent at the end of 2015. In fact, just a week ago, they just got a $1.3 million grant from the Israeli Chief Scientist Office. Considering that the current market interest and demand for 3D printed electronics has been rising, the company's future development is undoubtedly very promising.
