Nursing Reagents-US researchers found genes responsible for fat conversion

Many people have to stay in front of delicious high-calorie foods to stay slim, but a new study is expected to bring them good news. American researchers have discovered a gene responsible for converting carbohydrates into fat in the human body. This discovery is expected to help people control their weight.

Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley found that a gene called DNA-PK seems to control the liver's process of converting carbohydrates into fat. Experiments conducted on mice have shown that when this gene is disrupted, no matter how much bread or macaroni and other high-carbohydrate foods fed to the mice, the weight of the mice will not increase significantly.

One of the researchers, Roger Wang, said the experiment showed that mice with damaged DNA-PK genes were slimmer and had 40% less body fat compared to normal mice, mainly because carbohydrates could not be converted into fat.

Researchers believe that since humans also have this gene, on the basis of this research, it is possible to develop obesity prevention drugs in the future, so that people can safely enjoy delicious bread, macaroni and rice and other foods without worrying about getting fat.
