Japan plans to develop next-generation high-performance mold 3D printer

Japan plans to concentrate on developing the next generation of high performance mold 3D printers in 5 years. By that time, the mold making speed will increase to the current 10 times.
Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported on May 29 that the Ministry of Economy and Trade of Japan plans to invest 3 billion yen, led by the Institute of Industrial Technology, Qunrong Chemical Industry, Kimura Foundry, CMET, KOIWAI, Komatsu Plant, Nissan Motor, Waseda University Such as joint participation, division of labor and cooperation, to give full play to the advantages of industry, universities and research institutes, to produce a high-performance mold 3D printer with a cost reduction of 80% and a manufacturing speed increase of 10 times compared with the current mold manufacturing equipment in 5 years.
At present, the use of 3D printers to manufacture large-scale industrial molds has drawbacks such as speed and accuracy. The next-generation mold 3D printers in the design will use repeated, high-speed jets of special glue to fix fine sand, and complex molds can be formed in a short time. The technology can be applied to a wide range of fields, and the demand for special casting parts in aviation equipment, medical equipment and other industries can also be easily achieved.
According to statistics, the annual sales of the Japanese mold industry reached more than 1 trillion yen. In order to cope with the competition from the Chinese foundry industry, Japan hopes to rejuvenate the Japanese foundry industry through this technology development and improve its international competitiveness.
