The side gauges are commonly called pull gauges, and the side gauges mainly include roller type, magnetic stripe type, and pneumatic type.

The roller-type pull gauge is to change the reciprocating motion into a rotary motion, so the inertial impact force is very small. The disadvantage is that the contact surface between the roller and the paper is small, and when the vibration is large, it is easy to cause overprinting.

The characteristic of the magnetic strip pull gauge is that it can obtain a larger contact area with the paper, and the positioning accuracy of the front gauge is relatively small, but the structure is relatively complicated; the installation accuracy is also very high, and the pneumatic pull gauge is mostly common on imported offset presses .

A pneumatic pull gauge is installed on the Manroland 700 offset press. It can adjust the amount of air intake according to the thickness of the substrate. The air volume control regulating valve is installed on the operating side.

The following focuses on the adjustment methods of roller-type and magnetic-strip pull gauges.

Adjustment method of one-roller side gauge

Most of the offset presses made in China use roller type side gauges. Figure 4-4 is a schematic diagram of its structure.

1. Adjusting the side drawing time

If it is necessary to change the paper pulling time of a side rule, the fixing screw on the cam 9 can be loosened to adjust the relative position of the cam and the circumference of the shaft; the paper pulling time can be greatly adjusted. If fine-tuning is needed again, the eccentric position of the eccentric shaft can be adjusted. Change the gap between the roller and the low point of the cam curve surface. If the gap is large, the paper roller will fall early and be lifted late; otherwise, the paper roller will fall late and be lifted early.

2. Adjustment of working position of paper stopper

The change of the working position of the paper blocking positioning plate is adjusted by the difference of the two threads. When adjusting, loosen the nut 5 and turn the adjusting nut 4 to move the screw 23 to drive the paperboard 25 within the sleeve 24 with external threads to change the gap between the paperboard and the paper table. The pitch of the connecting part is large, and the pitch of the connecting part with the screw 23 is small, so when the nut rotates once, the height movement of the platen is the difference between the two pitches, and the gap between the paper blocking positioning plate and the iron table is generally Three times the thickness of the printed paper.

3. Adjustment of paper pulling force

Generally, the contact pressure of the paper pulling wheel is obtained by adjusting the deformation of the compression spring by adjusting the screw (the compression spring usually has two types, one is a thin spring and the other is a thick spring, which is selected according to the thickness of the paper).

4. Adjustment of the working position of the side rule

Loosen the lock nut, use the handle to loosen the screw, change the axial position of the sleeve seat on the fixed shaft, and move the entire side gauge to make a large adjustment in the "left and right" direction. The fine adjustment is to loosen the lock nut, so that the side gauge seat body and the fixed shaft can be relatively moved to fine adjust.

The main reason for the failure of the side gauge is that the paper cannot be pulled or is pulled too far, which is related to the above adjustments. Although the above adjustments are simple, they are very important and should not be treated carelessly.

Adjustment method of two magnetic stripe type side gauge

1. Adjust the height of the pull gauge cover

The distance from the side gauge cover to the lowest point of the pull gauge should be set to 0.1mm (Figure 4-5 / â‘ ). The standard setting is suitable for printing 0.1mm ~ 0.4mm thick printing materials. [next]

When the thickness of the printing material is less than 0.1mm or exceeds 0.4mm, the thickness must be reset according to the printing material to replace the original 0.1mm.

a. Jog the machine forward until the pull gauge ball drops to the lowest point, the adjustable range of the pull shaft is between 305 ° ~ 345 °.
b Pull off the safety bar.
c. Insert a piece of paper about 5mm wide between the pull shaft and the horizontal paper stop (Figure 4-5 / â‘¡) under the guard:
· Printing material with thickness less than 0.4mm: Use paper strip with thickness of 0.1mm.
· Printing plates with a thickness greater than 0.4mm: Use paper strips with the same thickness as the printing paper.
d Use an extended screwdriver to turn the eccentric screw (pointed by the arrows in Figure 4-5 / â‘¢ and 4-6) under the gauge cap until the paper strip and the gauge cover touch.
e. Turn the screw back until the paper strip can be pulled out slightly. Then turn a scale in this direction, at this time, the paper strip and the cover of the pull gauge are not in contact.
f. Remove the paper strip and close the safety bar.

2. Adjust the spring force of the pull gauge

If the height of the pull gauge cover is correct, each piece of paper should be pulled to the stopper correctly, which requires setting a proper pull spring pressure.

a. Loosen the lock nut (Figure 4-5 / â‘£).
b. Turn the pattern screw (Figure 4-5 / ⑤): turn to the right to increase the spring pressure; turn to the left to decrease the spring pressure.
c Tighten the lock nut (Figure 4-5 / â‘£).
? Tip: If the electronic pull gauge control system is set correctly, there will be a short whistle alarm if there is an error when pulling paper.

3 Replace the spring used for paper jam printing:

a. First loosen the lock nut (Figure 4-5 / ④), and then unscrew the knurled screw (Figure 4-5 / ⑤).
b. Remove the spring.
c Insert the spring of the printed jam.
d Screw the screw in place, and then tighten the lock nut.
e Set the spring pressure as described above.
4 Adjust the electric eye

(1). Detection function of pull gauge electric eye

a. Cut the paper into 20 × 100mm paper strips.
b. Raise the paper leveler and the paper table.
c. Remove the shield that blocks foreign objects. If necessary, remove the pressure plate.
d. Set the front gauge deflection angle to 0.
e. Press the paper feed open button.
f. Set the machine in safe mode on the paper feed operation panel and jog forward until the front gauge moves to the top. Do not touch the shaft and the gauge. The angle value is shown on the display. If the paper is in the correct position near the pull gauge, the control message will appear on the display (a black block Figure 4-2 / ​​①). The following control information indicates that the pull gauge is on the operation surface. The above control information indicates that the pull gauge is on the transmission surface.

If there is no control information (black square) on the display, you need to readjust the pull gauge

? Tip: If the pull gauge control system fails during the production process, the pull gauge needs to be readjusted regardless of whether control information is displayed on the display during the test.

In order to ensure the accurate function of the pull gauge electric eye, the electric eye should be cleaned regularly.

(2). Adjust the pull gauge electric eye

a If the control black block does not appear, turn the knob counterclockwise (Figure 4-7 / â‘ ) until the control black block appears.
b Slowly turn the knob clockwise until the control black block disappears and no longer lights up.
c. Rotate the knob 10 scales counterclockwise. (When rotating, the control black block will appear repeatedly on the display.)
d Remove the paper and control the black block to disappear.
